SUPERMOON!

What is a supermoon? We confess: before a few years ago, we in astronomy had never heard that term. To the best of our knowledge, astrologer Richard Nollecoined the term supermoon over 30 years ago. The term has only recently come into popular usage. Nolle has defined a supermoon as:
… a new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.
That’s a pretty generous definition, which is why there are so many supermoons. By this definition, according to Nolle:
There are 4-6 supermoons a year on average.

Next Supermoon December 2017

The next Supermoon will be on December 3, 2017.
The Supermoon on November 14, 2016, was the closest since January 26, 1948. The next time a Full Moon will come even closer to Earth is on November 25, 2034 (dates based on UTC time).

Super Full Moon and Super New Moon

When a Full Moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth, it is called a Super Full Moon. A New Moon that takes place when the Moon is around its perigee is known as a Super New Moon.
Micromoon, on the other hand, is when a Full or a New Moon is farthest from the Earth, around apogee. It's also known as a Minimoon, Mini Full Moon, or a Mini New Moon

Not an Official Name

Supermoon is not an official astronomical term. It was first coined by an astrologer, Richard Nolle, in 1979. He defined it as ‘a New or a Full Moon that occurs when the Moon is at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in its orbit’. It is not clear why he chose the 90% cut off in his definition.
There are no official rules as to how close or far the Moon must be to qualify as a Supermoon or a Micro Moon. Different outlets use different definitions. Due to this, a Full Moon classified as a Supermoon by one source may not qualify as a Super Full Moon by another.

How long does it take for the moon to go through all of its phases?
about 29.5 days It takes 27 days, 7 hours, and 43 minutes for our Moon to complete one full orbit around Earth. This is called the sidereal month, and is measured by our Moon'sposition relative to distant “fixed” stars. However, it takes our Moon about 29.5 days to complete one cycle of phases (from new Moon to new Moon).

Before we called them supermoons, we in astronomy called them perigean full moonsWe first became familiar with the supermoon label in the year 2011 when the media used it to describe the full moon of March 19, 2011. On that date, the full moon aligned with proxigee – the closest perigee of the year – to stage the closest, largest full moon of 2011.

BOOK REVIEW

"Kakek, apakah cinta itu seperti musik?"
"Ya. Ia seperti musik, tetapi cinta sejati akan membuatmu selalu menari meskipun musiknya telah lama berhenti." - Tere Liye, Berjuta Rasanya

General Information :

  • Published : May 2012
  • Author : Tere Liye
  • Publisher : Mahaka
  • Edition Languange : Indonesian

Review :

Falling in love is millions. Is that right? At least, that's the 'taste' of the various stories that Tere Liye has offered in this collection of short stories.

Berjuta Rasanya consists of 15 short stories, with one single essence : love. Each of these stories has its own 'feel'.  There is a story about the pain of unrequited love, a love story that can change a person's bad traits, to the story of someone who is willing to sacrifice herself in the name of love.

The book is opened with a short story of 'Bila Semua Wanita Cantik' tells about Vin, who thinks that her body is the one that makes it difficult to get a boyfriend. She often prayed to God to make her beautiful, or else she wanted God to make all women in this world as 'bad' as herself. However, God's answer was beyond Vin's expectations. His answer to the prayer made Vin realize that true love is a love that comes from the heart.

Someone who loves you because of physical, then one day he will also go for that physical reasons. Someone who likes you because of matter, then one day he will also go because of matter. But someone who loves you because of your heart, then he will never leave. Because heart never teaches about the relative size of which one is better or worse.

The next story, 'Hiks, Kupikir Kau Naksir Aku', is a funny short story and I think we all have experienced it as a teenager. It's about Putri, who often feels 'geer' everytime Rio, the boy that she likes, stares at her, waves her hand at her, or just plainly interchanges with her. Sooner or later, this character of this Putri also makes his friend annoyed. In fact, he is only deceived by his own feelings. The truth? What we can say, it is a unrequited love!

"Those who fall in love are sometimes shackled by the illusion that created by their own hearts. She could no longer distinguish which is really real, or which one is the result of the creation of her heart that hiding a longing. Little incidents, enough to please her. Feel as if that's good news. In fact, when she knew it was just a boasting of his feelings, then that's when her heart will fall to pieces. Broken heart then happened. Accused someone of playing with her."

Then, there is the story of a wife who is willing to sacrifice for the healing of her husband, although in the end the husband turned to another woman, in the short story 'Kupu-kupu Monarch'. There is also the story of a young man and girl who are secretly love each other, but they aren't dare to express their feelings, in the short story 'Antara Kau dan Aku'. And there are many other stories in Berjuta Rasanya.

Reading this collection of short stories is like reading the writer's 'heart's contents'. There are stories that are funny, sad, touching, and insinuating. Each short story has its own 'feel' and its own impression so makes us comfortable when reading it. Usually, I like reading books while listening to music. The atmosphere becomes more exciting, especially if the songs accurately describe the content of the story in the book.

May the good understanding comes. That all experience of love and feeling is special. Just as special as ours, no matter how simple it is, as long as it is wrapped with good insights.

It's such a unfortunate to miss this book. Especially if you are a fan of the Tere Liye's works. This book is definitely worth reading!

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”

STUDY LIFE IN THAILAND

Good evening, lovely readers! It's been awhile since I posted. I would like to apologize because I had so many assignments and activities to do. So, today I will tell a little bit of my story during in Thailand. Let's peek!

First of all, it was all started because of my teacher, Mrs.Ida. On early February, she offered a 1 month- study program in Thailand, called 2B-KMUTT Summer Camp to my class. At first, I didn't  put my interest so much into it. I just like "Ohhh, that's good" But then, I didn't know why some of my friends registered themselves into it and also my mother somehow asked me, "Why don't you join it too?? Just try it, your friends already prepared the forms and everything" Here it comes.. So, as a good daughter, I obeyed what my mother said and I opened the link for registration. As I opened it, there were some requirements that I had to fulfill such as, Application Form, Letter from Guardian, Curriculum Vitae (CV), Personal Letter of Motivation, and many more. I was kinda lazy because like damn why it was so complicated. But, I still kept doing it and yup I registered myself to 2B-KMUTT Camp. Yiipie!

I wasn't so ambitious about it, I mean if I failed, it's okay. But, as I thinked about it more deeply like maybe I could alittle bit made myself get escaped from this reality and gained some new experiences out there. So, I prayed that I could get accepted and hoped for the best.

By the way, 2B-KMUTT Camp is a program that was held by King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), one of the best university in Thailand. They want to look for some potential students in Asia and gather them in a camp to study about their future job or even feel the atmosphere of being a college student. Every year,2B-KMUTT Camp will be promoted in many countries in Asia. Beside of that, in this program we can choose what faculty that we want to learn about and I chose Civil Engineering.

Maybe 1/2 weeks later, the announcement came. At first, I didn't know that bcs I was in the canteen but as I went back to my class.... Ziyad (my friend) told me that we both were get accepted! YEAYY! I was almost screaming at that time and I was so happy because both of us could make it. There were 6 students from SMAN 3 Bandung.

But, there was only 1 step more. We had to do the Interview. We were using Skype and the Staff from Admission would video call us. We were all in the Computer Lab and prepared our laptop, internet connection, and of course ourselves too. We were so nervous because we couldn't imagine what they would ask about. We were also guided by our English teacher, Mrs. Wiwin. She helped us to prepared everything for interview. So, the first interviewer was Diva. Me and the others were standing in front of her laptop, listening how the they asked Diva some questions. After we heard it, we thinked that it wasn't so diffucult and we could do it as long as we did it calmly and clearly.

A few days later, the second announcement showed up. I successed!! I was so happy and grateful at the same time. I checked it on my email and the website. It was truee. But, unfortunately, two of us couldn't make it. So, there were just 4 from SMAN 3 Bandung and 5 from Indonesia. By the way, there were also some students from Vietnam and Phillipines. I couldn't wait to see them! :)

Our teacher, Mrs.Ida, the one who would accompanied us during in Thailand. She told us some regulations that we had to follow and what we had to bring. She also explained about the schedules and activities during this Camp. After that, We made two appointments, for parents & the Headmaster and Pre-Departure.

A day before departure, my beloved classmates and I went to Upnormal Riau to have lunch together and also said goodbye to one another. I was sad bcs I knew that I would miss them so much :') But, we supported each other and hoped the best for us. We also took some pictures together, with weird accessories. 💕

- flight to Thailand-

Finally, we arrived in Thailand! The flight was nice and quite long... But, nevermind we loved to be here and we immediately went to get our baggage and checked our passport. First impression, THAILAND WAS VERY HOT! We were still in the airport and the line was still long. It was crowded and we had been waited for about an hour 😲 It was hotter than Jakarta, I guess.

After that, we went to meet the Staff at the 1st floor. We was surprised because we also met the students from Vietnam!!💓 We were so shy to talk to each other but fortunately the Staffs made like a mini-games, we had to remember all of the names of Staffs and students ( Indonesians and Vietnamies). In Thailand, the nickname for older brother or sister, we can use 'P'. So, if the name is Fah, it will be P'Fah. Actually, Thai's names are diffult to pronounce. But it seems that they have their own short name. It will make easier for us to call them.

From the airport, finally we went to King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) by using a bus. Along the way, Indonesians and Vietnamies talked to each other :
'Hey, what's your name?'
'How old are you'
'What grade are you in?'
'What's your plan for the project?'
'What's your department?'
etc.
We were talking so many things and made some jokes too. My friend, Amira actually brought Dodol from Indonesia and shared it to all of us, included Vietnamies and Thais. Their reactions were funny too. Some of them liked it but the rest thinked that it was weird. When I looked outside the window, I saw Thailand for the first time and I thought Thailand is similiar to Jakarta, except the wheather.

We arrived at KMUTT at 6pm. There were so many colloge students there. Of course. We were asked to sit at the Resident Area, the central place of KMUTT and waited for the others. We met so many staffs and I thought their faces were really good and unique. We were a little bit confused because they were talking in Thai languange fastly.

After all, I really enjoy my short-study in Thailand. It's sad that we have to leave each other. But we're grateful because we made good memories and a lot of friends from another countries. I hope that we will not forget each other and we can meet someday. Thank God, I applied to this camp, because everything is memoriable and so precious for me. Beside that, 2B-KMUTT Students will get a scholarship if we want to apply for next year to study in KMUTT. Nice.

FILM REVIEW

Good evening, folks! Right now, i will make a film review about one of my favorite movies. It's Joy. This film is about drama and biography. Joy came out in December 2015 and has a 6,6/10 rating. The duration of this film is about 124 minutes and it took 60 millions dollars to make this film!

The casts of Joy are Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Edgar Ramirez, and many more. My favorite one is Jennifer Lawrence because she has so many experience of being an artist and she also has very good performances in every films that she played.

Now, let's take a look :

First, Joy is a film that directed by David O.Russell. This movie tells a story about the life journey of a housewife who came from Long Island, namely Joy Mangano. Be a single mom surely need a sacrifice, where she has to take care of her two children and also has to keep her house safe and comfortable for her children. The other side, Joy has to work really hard because her ex-husband is unreliable.

David O.Russell

Joy's life was complicated. When she was a little, she had a talent to make some stuffs. Her father, Rudy, has a truck workshop. Her grandmother ( the narator of this film) pushed her to reach her dreams in the future. While her mother only busied in her bedroom, watching her favorites opera film all day.

Be an adult, somehow Joy felt that her dreams were getting futher. She faced two divorces, first, her mother and father divorce. She split up from her half-sister, Peggy, who followed her father. While she had to be with her mother and grandmother. She was married in the young age and had 2 children from a Venezuelan man, named Anthony. At the end, they divorced but Anthony still stayed in her basement house for 2 years.

Joy and her daughter

One day, Rudy returned to Joy's house. He wanted to stay again for a while because he broke up with his girlfriend. Her mother and father had argues for the second time. Joy gave divider and asked them to not act like that again. Joy had a work at airport as an air ticketing officer.

But, her nightmares kept coming. She was fired from her job. In the situation that full of pressures, she got nightmares from her childhood. Little Joy asked Joy to go back and reach her dreams, make some goods/stuffs, like she was used to do. When she woke up, she directly asked her father to move. She explained her father to sacrifice for herself like he has used to do when Joy was a little and cancelled to go to college because she had to be an accuntant in her father's workshop. She also asked Anthony to move, because it wasn't normal that her ex-husband was still stayed at her house. They initially refused, but Joy insisted and finally they moved.

Accompanied by her daughters, Joy drew her new invention. She successfully made a modern mop, named Miracle Pop. Her steps weren't easy, because the factory told her that they had the same design with her. They asked Joy to give them the royalties. Rudy and his girlfriend, Trudy became the investors of that mop doubtfully. There were so many people who rejected, because the mop cost 20 dollars and they thinked it was too expensive.

Because of her husband's help, Joy was delivered to meet the CEO of CVC, a big company that manage Walmart, named Neil Walker. At the first,he didn't accept it seriously. But, Joy asked for a chance to introduce her mop in front of Neil. Joy exhibited how her mop was made from soft coton that absorbs water, could be dried automatically (without touching it), and also could be removed to be washed in the washing machine.

Neil Walker

Neil was impressed and agreed to promote Joy's products on TV Home Shopping. He asked Joy to prepare 50 thousands mops. By all means, including by mortgaging her house, Joy successfully made 50 thousands mops. But, the person who advertise her mops didn't do it well. So, there was no any phone from customers.

Joy stressed, but she didn't want to give up. She came to Neil and begged him to make Joy could show on TV. Finally, Neil agreed. He reminded Joy that there were many lights and it would be difficult for her who had never done it before.

------------------ spoiler alert ------------------

I won't tell you the whole story, just watch it by yourself 😁
As for a recommendation, I enjoyed this film and i think it's inspirational too.
Happy Watching!

TWIXMAS!

Happy New Year, folks! I hope this year will be so fine to all of us. So, what's your resolution in this year? Slim? Boyfriend? Good score? Well, whatever what you want to do in this year, I pray that we all can accept that  together.

This time, I will write about my nothing-to-do time during December. Seriously, I think my holiday isn't sumptuous as the other people. But, uniquely, I got many experiences and moral values during that time. Are you curious?

Let's begin :

First, it's normal for me to spend a lot of my time at home. My mom and i spent our time to watched movies. For me, it could bring our closer and got to know each other better. Then, I played my guitar, sang my favorite songs, ate many junk foods, and... read a few textbooks. I'm not a typical of human that can be very free in my life, especially in holiday. My friends oftentimes said to me, "Relax", "Let's go to blablabla", "Do you want to go to mall blablabla". Every person has their own life, own responsibilites, and own problems. It's just us to manage all the things together and find out the best solution for that. And for me, have so much time with family is better than spend our money to shopping or hangout in mall or some other luxurious places.

While I was at home, I spent a lot of time with my family, especially when we had a Christmas!
We made a Christmas tree, made so many tasty cookies, bought some clothes, and shared our happiness together. We had many worship in our Church, we sang, and exchanged greetings to our neighbors.

New Year's Eve came. We prayed in Church for blesses. 2016 was filled with a lot of happiness and sadness. I hope 2017 will be my year where I can develop myself to be a better person in every single day. To celebrate the New Year's Eve, me and my family were having a party in Papandayan Hotel. The hotel isn't far from my house. There, we had a music event, dinner together, he countdown! There was a big screen where we could see the clock. After that, we could blew our trompets!! YUHU. It was so exiting and a little bit noisy. Unforgettable experince, I guess. :) Everyone said 'Happy New Year' to one each other and also sent message/called their families. We took some photos for documentation and because I was already sleepy, we went back home.

In the next day, we woke up at 10 o'clock because we didn't have enough time to sleep. My dad cook for us and we had our breakfast together. Then, I watched some movies in HBO , Fox Crime, and the last was Food Network because I love watching people cook. After that, I decided to read my science books and did some exercises. My goal this year is having a better score and be a diligent student. YEaH!!!

On January 3rd 2017, my family and i went to Jakarta to had a small vacation. It took 3 hours to get there. We slept in IBIS Hotel Cikini Jakarta. Actually, my father had a bussines there so my sister, my mother, and I stayed in the hotel to took some rest. After all the things have done, we all went to Baji Pamai Restaurant at Kelapa Gading street to ate our favorite noodle. It was so yummy and satisfying. Can't wait to get back there soon!

In the next morning, my dad continued his bussiness at 8 o'clock. After that, my mother, my sister and I went to KFC because we had no idea where we would go. Since, our car was being used by my father, we looked for BAJAJ. I think it was fun and so oriental. After we reached the KFC, we ate and had some talks. Our stomach was already fulfilled and we continued our journey to PLANETARIUM JAKARTA. It's located at Jl.Cikini Raya No.73. I already visited this place when i was 7/8 years old.

Unfortunately, the place was full of people and there wasn't a ticket anymore. It was too bad. But, we still could take some photos inside the museum. There were some miniature about spaceship, horoscope, outer space, space object's histories, and many more. I think some cities should build a place like this because it was very useful for kids and also adults.

After that, we walked around Taman Ismail Marzuki to took some aunthentic photos for my instagram. HEHE. Since our foot were already hurt and the weather was so hot, we looked for the shade and we found 7 ELEVEN!. Thank God. My sister and I bought two cold Ovaltines. Then we sat while my mother was having a call with her friend.

We were so tired so we decided to back to the hotel and chilled ourself up. My mother was slept, my sister was slept, and there was me, watching the television. I am a movies enthusiast.

At the end of the day, my family and i went back to Bandung and had a Burger King at km 101.

MY BIGWIG

STEVE JOBS

"Sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith."
-steve jobs

Kon'nichiwa ! This time, i'll write about my inspirational person, Steve Jobs. I bet you already know him. Am I right? He is inspire many people in this world with his invention. What he already done is huge and it really reminds me that no matter what people think about you, you will always can be what your Creator wants you to be to. So, i'll give you some informations and biography about him. I hope that you guys will be inspired by him too 😊👍

youth :

Steven Paul Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco, California. His unwed biological parents, Joanne Schieble and Abdulfattah Jandali, put him up for adoption. Steve was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs, a lower-middle-class couple, who moved to the suburban city of Mountain View a couple of years later.

Paul Jobs and his son

The Santa Clara county, south of the Bay Area, became known as Silicon Valley in the early 1950s after the sprouting of a myriad of semi-conductor companies. As a result, young Steve Jobs grew up in a neighborhood of engineers working on electronics and other gizmos in their garages on weekends. This shaped his interest in the field as he grew up. At age 13, he met one the most important persons in his life: 18-year-old Stephen Wozniak, an electronics wiz kid, and, like Steve, an incorrigible prankster.

Five years later, when Steve Jobs reached college age, he told his parents he wanted to enroll in Reed College — an expensive liberal arts college up in Oregon. Even though the tuition fees were astronomical for the poor couple, they had promised their son's biological parents he would get a college education, so they relented. Steve spent only one semester at Reed, then dropped out, as he was more interested in eastern philosophy, fruitarian diets, and LSD than in the classes he took. He moved to a hippie commune in Oregon where his main activity was cultivating apples.

Steve Jobs and Wozniak

A few months later, Steve returned to California to look for a job. He was hired at the young video game maker Atari, and used his wages to make a trip to India with one of his college friends, in order to 'seek enlightenment'. He came back a little disillusioned and started to take interest in his friend Woz's new activities.

Apple and the personal computer era :

Steve Jobs had realized there was a huge gap in the computer market. At that time almost all computers were mainframes. They were so large that one could fill a room, and so costly that individuals could not afford to buy them. Advances in electronics, however, meant that computer components were getting smaller and the power of the computer was increasing.
Apple II

Jobs and Wozniak redesigned their computer, with the idea of selling it to individual users. Th
e Apple II went to market in 1977, with impressive first year sales of $2.7 million. The company's sales grew to $200 million within three years. This was one of the most phenomenal cases of corporate growth in U.S. history. Jobs and Wozniak had opened an entirely new market—personal computers. Personal computers began an entirely new way of processing information.
By 1980 the personal computer era was well underway. Apple was continually forced to improve its products to remain ahead, as more competitors entered the marketplace. Apple introduced the Apple III, but the new model suffered technical and marketing problems. It was withdrawn from the market, and was later reworked and reintroduced.

Jobs continued to be the marketing force behind Apple. Early in 1983 he unveiled the Lisa. It was designed for people possessing minimal computer experience. It did not sell well, however, because it was more expensive than personal computers sold by competitors. Apple's biggest competitor was International Business Machines (IBM). By 1983 it was estimated that Apple had lost half of its market share (part of an industry's sales that a specific company has) to IBM.
Lisa Computer

The Macintosh :

In 1984 Apple introduced a revolutionary new model, the
Macintosh. The on-screen display had small pictures called icons. To use the computer, the user pointed at an icon and clicked a button using a new device called a mouse. This process made the Macintosh very easy to use. The Macintosh did not sell well to businesses, however. It lacked features other personal computers had, such as a corresponding high quality printer. The failure of the Macintosh signaled the beginning of Jobs's downfall at Apple. Jobs resigned in 1985 from the company he had helped found, though he retained his title as chairman of its board of directors.

NeXT :

NeXT Company

Steve Jobs soon hired some of his former employees to begin a new computer company called NeXT. Late in 1988 the NeXT computer was introduced at a large gala event in San Francisco, aimed at the educational market. Initial reactions were generally good. The product was very user-friendly, and had a fast processing speed, excellent graphics displays, and an outstanding sound system. Despite the warm reception, however, the NeXT machine never caught on. It was too costly, had a black-and-white screen, and could not be linked to other computers or run common software.

Pixar :

NeXT was not, however, the end of Steve Jobs. In 1986 Jobs purchased a small company called Pixar from filmmaker George Lucas (1944–). Pixar specialized in computer animation. Nine years later Pixar released Toy Story, a huge box office hit. Pixar later went on to make Toy Story 2 and A Bug's Life, which Disney distributed, and Monsters, Inc. All these films have been extremely successful. Monsters, Inc. had the largest opening weekend ticket sales of any animated film in history.

NeXT and Apple :

Steve Jobs return to Apple

The following year, in a surprising event, Apple entered into a partnership with its competitor Microsoft. The two companies, according to the New York Times, "agreed to cooperate on several sales and technology fronts." Over the next six years Apple introduced several new products and marketing strategies.

In November 1997 Jobs announced Apple would sell computers directly to users over the Internet and by telephone. The Apple Store became a runaway success. Within a week it was the third-largest e-commerce site on the Internet. In September of 1997 Jobs was named interim CEO of Apple.
In 1998 Jobs announced the release of the iMac, which featured powerful computing at an affordable price. The iBook was unveiled in July 1999. This is a clam-shaped laptop that is available in bright colors. It includes Apple's AirPort, a computer version of the cordless phone that would allow the user to surf the Internet wirelessly. In January 2000 Jobs unveiled Apple's new Internet strategy. It included a group of Macintosh-only Internet-based applications. Jobs also announced that he was becoming the permanent CEO of Apple.
In a February 1996 Time magazine article, Jobs said, "The thing that drives me and my colleagues … is that you see something very compelling to you, and you don't quite know how to get it, but you know, sometimes intuitively, it's within your grasp. And it's worth putting in years of your life to make it come into existence." Jobs has worked hard to translate his ideas into exciting and innovative products for businesses and consumers. He was instrumental in launching the age of the personal computer. Steve Jobs is truly a computer industry visionary.

Movie :

Steve Jobs' biography can also watched by his movie, Steve Jobs. It's really great and you should watch it. The first plot actually a little bit difficult to understand (for me) but the others are just fine. Steve Jobs is played by Michael Fassbender. ( he also play in X Men 😂)
